First, let’s talk about your Bootlegger Award nominations: Most Opinionated, Sexiest Blogger, and Best Male Blogger. All well-deserved, but which, if any, do you feel is most fitting and why?
Thanks. Not sure which one is most fitting, but the one I would like to win the most is Best Male Blogger. Winning a 20SB Bootlegger Award is like winning an Oscar in the blogosphere! So taking home Best Male Blogger would be the virtual equivalent to taking home Best Actor…or at least that’s how I like to envision it. Although the adult thing for me to say is “it’s an honor just to be nominated,” even though we all know it’s the W that we really want!
You are a very opinionated man, of this there is no doubt. Which of your posts do you think has stirred up the most controversy?
I would say the most controversial post I’ve ever written was on Prop 8 being passed, a bill that eliminated the fundamental right for same-sex couples to marry in the state of California. I wrote it the day after the November 2008 election and as I’m sure you know, anytime you bring up religion or politics people are sure to have strong opinions and beliefs. Why don’t you blog about Diesel (your dog, of course) more? And why don’t you post more pictures? The internet loves dogs, you know.
I love that Diesel came up on this interview! For those that don’t know, Diesel is my English Bulldog and I love him more than life itself! In fact, I think I love him more than I’ve ever loved any of my past girlfriends. Is that wrong? Ask anyone that knows me, they will tell you he’s my favorite subject and I tend to never shut up about him. So when it comes to blogging, I do my best not to constantly write about Diesel even though I’m tempted to! Although I do have about a dozen or so posts dedicated to my 45lb chunk of meat. Expect more in the future!
If there was one major contribution you’d hope to make either to the 20SB community or the internet community as a whole through your blog, what would it be?
Well, I have sort of secret fundraiser going on that I haven’t told anyone about until now. A couple people have contacted me about advertising on my blog. So in exchange for the advertisement space, I’m asking them to donate that money to fellow 20SB Member Brandy at LoveHarder.org instead. It’s to raise money for her boyfriend who has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.
Do you have a favorite time and place to blog? What are you wearing? (not now, necessarily, but when you blog. But hey, you can tell me what you’re wearing now, too. I don’t mind.)
I’m a night owl. So I usually write late at night after the world falls silent. You can find me kicked back on the couch with my laptop in some faded/torn blue jeans, a vintage CBGB tee, a pair of Pumas, and of course Diesel snoring by my side. That is tonight’s blogging attire.
Which song from the last decade most makes you want to stick sharp objects in your ears so you never have to hear it again? Which one will you still be listening to ten years from now?
Oooh, good question! I’m a music junkie so this is a hard one for me to answer. But “My Humps” by Fergie comes to mind as the one song from the last decade that makes me what to repeatedly stab my eardrums. I hate to say that because I love the Black Eyed Peas, but that song is just torturous! The one song I think I’ll still be listening to 10 years from now is Jay-Z & Alicia Keys “Empire State Of Mind”…or maybe just Alicia Key’s slower piano solo “Empire State Of Mind (Part II) Broken Down”
Your archives span back to January 2005. That’s commitment! What made you decide to start blogging, and what goals did you have for yourself as a blogger at that point? Is this what you expected?
I wish I had a more compelling story to share, but I started blogging mostly out of curiosity, to see what all the hype was. I kept diaries on and off as a kid. So I’m very grateful to have rediscovered my childhood love of writing. It has given me the creative outlet in which I so desperately craved. And through it, the ability to express the things in my everyday life that are often too difficult for me to verbalize. I have never really set any blogging goals, other than to just have fun. When I started, I would have never thought that 5 years later I would still be blogging! And I certainly didn’t think anyone would know I even existed, let alone have 2,000+ subscribers reading. That just blows me away!
What is your biggest non-blog goal for 2010? How about for the decade?
I always set a lot of goals for myself, but I think the biggest one for 2010 is to become a freelance writer, something more than just another guy with a blogspot.com address. My goal for the decade – find a girl who makes me deliriously happy. (And she must love Bulldogs.)
Thanks David!
