Being a blogger is awesome.
This is a guest post by Doniree, 20SB’s MAD Admin and Boulder resident. She wanted to share this experience with everyone because it was largely due to her personal blog. If you have stories like this, let us know!
Being a 20-Something Blogger and being invited to hang at a wine bar during a local radio station’s event hosted by a delicious food brand? Incredible.
That’s exactly what I did last week, along with six other 20SB‘ers (Matt, Chelsea, Grace, James, Ashley and Lauren) and our dates (Monica, Ryan, and two of Lauren’s friends). All in all, 20SB was repped by eleven attendees between the members and their guests (soon-to-be members?). Nicely done, Boulder/Denver group!
Athenos, the maker of delicious hummus, feta and pita chips, hosted a party last Thursday night at The Wine Loft in downtown Denver.
Here’s the premise of the event, in my words, not theirs:
Athenos, along with Alice 105.9, The Wine Loft, and US Weekly magazine have been hosting a number of Two Truths and a Lie trivia events in various cities across the country (I heard Atlanta kicked ass; Chicago -you’re up next!). Teams of two competed in pop culture trivia in a Two Truths and a Lie format, and competed for gift cards, cash prizes, and a grand prize of a trip to South Beach. Most of us were pleased to be a part of the audience until always-a-performer Chelsea and knows-a-LOT-about-sports-and-movies and Matt were asked to compete when a duo dropped out at the last minute.
Sidenote: Bringing Matt ANYWHERE in the Denver metro and introducing him as @Mr5280 gives you instant street cred. Seriously.
The Wine Loft is this great space downtown Denver with high ceilings, rich colors, and cushy couches. We met with Maggie, the Athenos PR rep, immediately when we walked in the door, were given a quick rundown on how the event was going to go, and then were told to sit wherever we pleased and she’d have us started off with wine right away.
We picked a table in the front corner of the restaurant - see and be seen, right? - got cozy, and immediately got to tasting the wine. We overheard a few people asking Maggie and crew who “that group” was up in the front corner, and felt all special and important when she answered, “Oh those? Those are the bloggers.”
The bloggers!
As for the wine, they were offering six different wines for tasting (3 reds, 3 whites), and kept coming back to refill our glasses, or directed us to a bartender who could do the same if we were up and mingling. A short ways into the event, I noticed all of the other attendees had drink tickets. Except we didn’t. Which means the wine they were drinking ran out when their drink tickets ran out. This was not the case for the bloggers. We had wine. All night. Lots of it. See? Special!
While we sipped wine and snacked on various flavors of hummus and pita chips – we were treated like press, like VIPs, and even had a chance to sit down with Marshall, the National Brand Manager for Athenos (who wasn’t bad to look at either). He joined our group for a drink and fielded questions for us on the Athenos brand, the office, and most importantly - the test kitchen.
Sidenote: if anyone knows how to sneak me in there sometime, I’m happy to taste test.
Erica, one of the morning show personalities on Alice 105.9, also came over to say hi and thank us for coming, and I think I only heard every third word she said because she was so stunningly beautiful. Kidding (about the listening part, she really IS gorgeous), I loved talking with her and we even shared a story or two about Minnesota radio (since I used to work in the radio advertising industry back in Minneapolis). Again, it was fun having people – local celebrities even! – who wanted to meet us. The bloggers.
Remember how I mentioned that Chelsea and Matt teamed up for the trivia contest? They dominated, and who could be surprised with Chelsea’s knowledge of all things music and Hollywood, and Matt’s handle on all things sports and movie-related, and came this close to the grand prize of a trip to South Beach, missing the buzzer by fractions of a second and instead scoring some sweet gift cards ($100 to Apple? Yes, please!).
All in all, we had a killer night, got a little silly, felt like superstars, met some great people, walked away with some sweet thank-you’s (including a t-shirt that says “When I dip, you dip, we dip”), and will never forget that Athenos is the only leading brand of hummus made with 100% real olive oil.
Or that they’re just a whole ridiculous amount of fun to party with.
