There’s been some backchannel communications regarding the new 20SB Team, but we wanted to give the Bootleg Award Winners their due before we jumped in and made it about us again.
Lisa and I are really, really excited to have a lean and mean new team of volunteers to help us try to manage and improve this community at one of its most exciting turning points.
A word on selection…
Managing a community as large as 20SB isn’t easy. Doing so without the real capacity to pay people to help out is even tougher. Over the years we’ve had help from some incredible members of this community, some of whom are still actively on the team, and others who’ve moved on to bigger and better things. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone.
Choosing new team members is always really hard, largely because there’s usually a lot of interest for a gig that sounds exciting, but in a lot of ways can be somewhat tedious and emotionally taxing.
In short, we look at everyone who applies seriously, and go out onto the web and check out what you’re up to and how you’re participating in 20SB. We ask around. We think hard about the roles and responsibilities we really need filled, and we look for a few things in particular:
- How active you are in your web communities, especially 20SB.
- Signs of initiative and execution…getting things done versus talking about it.
- Experience. Both as bloggers, and as it pertains to the role we need filled.
You know those times during American Idol when Randy crushes the heart and soul of some singer you and the audience think totally rocked the stage’s face off? Sometimes we know the team selection can feel that way.
We’re doing our best and are already incredibly excited by the contribution this team has started making, but don’t ever fret, there’s never a shortage of ways to get involved in this community.
